🌲 BETTER Life Summer School: Revitalizing Bohemian Switzerland National Park After Devastating Fire 🌲

The second group from the BETTER Life Summer School travelled to Bohemian Switzerland National Park to face the critical challenge of “Revitalizing Nature After a Major Fire”. The participants explored ways to reopen the park for tourism while balancing the need for environmental restoration.

Engaging with a diverse group of six stakeholders, including mayorslocal entrepreneursbusiness owners, and representatives from both the Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland National Parks, the group examined the complex dynamics between community interests and conservation. These discussions provided a deeper understanding of the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the fire, as well as the importance of fostering a sustainable future for the park.

By applying Socially Engaged Research (SER) principles, participants aimed to develop strategies that not only promote the recovery of the park’s biodiversity but also ensure responsible tourism that benefits local communities.

The group is now working to propose innovative solutions that protect the natural beauty of Bohemian Switzerland while supporting the livelihoods of those who rely on tourism.
